Name: Elysium (pronounced el-iss-ee-um) Echo Avel
Age/Grade: 17 // Senior
Year at C.A.R.: 1st
Labels Earned: None
Gender: Female
Personality: To put it simply, Elysium is not always the easiest girl to get along with. Not that she tries to be difficult. It's just that some people don't take the truth well. At the age of 9, she decided she was quite simply sick of the world's lack of honesty. So right then, she stopped. She hasn't told a single lie since, eight years ago. She believes, quite strongly, that the rest of the world should do the same. That, indeed, is her main flaw when it comes to getting along with others. But besides that, her adventurous nature doesn't always help. While some people might enjoy the fact that she'll do just about anything (except what she's supposed to be doing), others think she's just desperate for attention. And while that's not the intention, it's not exactly a surprise that it comes off that way. If she's bored and feeling ignored, she'll cause some 'excitement', with no thought for the consequences. Elysium loves to test people. She's fascinated by reactions. She'll dress a certain way, say a certain thing, just to see what the people around her will do. Even good friends, people she should trust, she'll test. She's always trying to see just how far she can push a friend before they can't take it and give up on her. How clingy can she be, how distant? But while all these things can make her slightly hard to tolerate, or even just plain obnoxious, to some people... Others actually like it. One thing's for sure, she's never predictable.
History: Elysium grew up in an oh-so-strict household, perhaps contributing to her more rebellious personality. In her family, appearances meant more than reality. It didn't matter how things really were, as long as it looked good to the rest of the world. And as the daughter of a highly successful investment banker and retired supermodel, it sure did look good. Money was never an issue. Elysium was given any and every material thing she could ever want. Her house was huge, beautiful, and even in a wealthy neighborhood in southern California something to be envied. Clothing was from top designer brands, housework was performed by maids, cooks, and gardeners.
But life was far from what it seemed. The picture-perfect marriage of Elysium's parents was constantly on the verge of a divorce. Her father was always working, away on some trip or another. Her mother was always partying. And rumors of affairs within the house were the norm. Rarely could one day pass without some shouting match of I-saw-you-with-her, I-saw-you-with-him. Elysium herself fueled some of these arguments. She resembled neither parent, in looks or personality. But she tried not to listen. Even as a child, she knew she wasn't like them. But it didn't make it any easier to hear. She'd hide up in her room, music turned on so loud every other noise was blocked out.
Elysium found other ways of dealing, though. She'd rebel against her parents and their perfect world whenever possible. While she was smart enough to be receiving top grades in her fancy private school, she'd choose instead to do just enough to get by. She'd buy cheaper, less classy clothing, and wear it to any of her parents' social events. She'd refuse to go out with the 'nice young men' her parents considered suitable boyfriends. Instead, she'd date the drug dealers, punks, loners, the ones perpetually-in-detention for one thing or another. Her parents were finally convinced she had some sort of social problem. So she was given a choice: drop her 'problem' friends, cheap clothes, and bad attitude... or get sent to Camp Aspen Ridge. She chose camp.
Appearance: Petite and pale, Elysium resembles neither parent. At 5'1 and around 90-95 pounds, she's a fraction of the size of her 5'11 mother and 6'3 father. And her smooth, white skin has no place in the Southern California world of orange, year-round tans. Where she comes from, if it doesn't come natural: fake it. Elysium's opinion? Skin cancer, no thanks. Her dark, nearly black hair is just as out-of place. California is known for its blondes, and her parents could be the poster couple for California. Dark eyes complete her look, often made darker with the help of eyeliner.
She dresses, most often, in black skinny jeans and long sleeves. But she's not afraid to show off her body. She'd do it for a dare, or just for the looks she'd get. Whichever. And she'll experiment with any look she feels like, whether it's high fashion, trashy, or something off the Disney channel. But one thing she won't do is tattoos or piercings. At all. It's too long-lasting for her. She will, however, draw all over her light skin with permanent markers.
Parents: Stella Avel & Jonathan Avel [Married]
Siblings: None
Hobbies: music [listening, singing], dance [all kinds], art [drawing, photography], junior high type party games [spin the bottle, truth or dare]
Secrets: So with Elysium's decisions of complete honesty came the difficulties of ever keeping her own secrets. Anything vaguely secret-like she'll easily admit if asked about. The closest thing she has to a secret is her bordering-on-anorexic eating habits. But if you ask her if she's eaten, she won't lie about it. She'll just tell you, whatever the truth may be.
